(Maybe it's just too dynamic.) But I'm glad to say that it's only two peaks and they might only go "over" by about 0.1db. On the first track it's a single hard cymbal-hit and on the second track it's only on a drum-fill because of a hit on the floor-tom. The result is nothing but the first sounding a bit loud, not even distorted or visually clipped on a closer look with a DAW. And only a tiny clip off of the second peak with a slight audible distortion, which might as well have been on the original recording. Although, then again, the recording dates back to May 1977, and I get the idea that this particular CD might have been the album's first digital re-master and consequential release. Here is a note from the booklet: "This album was recorded directly 2 track 30 ips No Dolby. The master was transferred to the JVC DAS-900 Digital Audio Mastering System" I guess it already kind of indicates the start of louder mastering, being from 1985, even though it's just one small clipping. For the rest, this CD sounds fantastic and, in my opinion, is how a record can still be fairly loud without any negative side-effects. A courtesy of MicHaeL H. |
