| Comment | I myself must weigh in on this. Right from the first of the "Golden Ring" SACD highlights disc, I knew something was wrong. I think Decca wanted to remaster this for those with basic earbuds and the spotify crowd. If you are listening on a cellphone, you will probably not notice the extremely clipped sound and compressed Dynamic Range. Myself, I am very disappointed with this release as the hammer stroke at the end of scene 1 of Das Rheingold is actually painful! Ask those who like this transfer what they are listening on, and I am willing to be most of them are listening on cellphones and the like. That equipment, naturally, is just not as revealing as full size floor speakes like Paradigm and B&W speakers. This leads to another question. Why is Decca trying to appeal to the masses by making a remaster that is compressed and clipped? I think they have no clue what they are doing. I would love to see a poll today as to how many classical music fans are using actual audiophile grade equipment instead of rinky-dink cellphones and such. The Dynamic Range on Das Rheingold is a 9! A measly 9. It should really be at least a 15 for audiophile grade sound. It's a travesty! |
